Ace it! Research Base and Assessments

Ace it! Small Group tutoring programs use evidence-based small-group strategies to address the diverse needs of students within the group. Once a student completes either a Group Reading Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation (GRADE) for the reading program or a Group Mathematics Assessment and Diagnostic Evaluation (GMADE) for the math program, the student is placed in a group with similar academic needs.

The GRADE and GMADE assessments are both from Pearson and are designed to be administered easily in a small group setting. The results are used to place students in instructional groups and to measure the progress of each student at appropriate points in the program.

In addition, Sylvan tutors use the results of the Student Outlook Survey, a proprietary tool created by Sylvan to better understand student motivation and mindset, to guide their interactions with each student and the group.
