Tommy rode his bike home from school the same way every day. He always left right after school let out. Sometimes, he would stop by a friend's house on the way home.
One day, Tommy stayed late to play with some friends. It was fall, so it got dark early. Tommy decided to head home.
This time on his way home, things looked different. He saw more shadows. He heard leaves blowing across the street behind him. When he rounded the corner for home, he saw something running along the top of a fence. It was something big and fast with a long, skinny tail.
Tommy biked as fast as he could the rest of the way home. When he got there, he slammed the door shut behind him. He was panting and his eyes were open wide.
Tommy's mother let out a big breath. "Tommy, are you all right? I was worried," she said.
