Using your social studies or science text, choose a 1-2 page section of a chapter to outline. Or, you may also choose 1-2 pages of a nonfiction article to outline. Use the headings or subheadings to fill in the main topics on your outline (I, II, III). As you come to important facts that support the subheading, write these in the outline (A, B, C). Additional, supporting details may be added (1, 2, 3). Complete the outline in your subject-specific notebook or on a separate sheet of paper.
Student responses may vary. Acceptable answers will correctly organize the key information from the text into an outline. Topics and main ideas will be labeled with Roman numerals. Supporting facts or subtopics will be labeled with capital letters. Additional supporting facts will be numbered.
