Sylvan Algebra Edge provides structured and systematic skill practice across a deep portfolio of content in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2, using an engaging digital platform. Algebra Edge aligns to and models the problems that students see in school and during assessment. Algebra Edge is designed to help students have fun, increase accuracy, accelerate learning, and build confidence to successfully apply the practiced skills in real life and in ongoing STEM learning.

Features of Sylvan Algebra Edge include:
- Engaging student experience: Vibrant design and gaming elements keep students productive and engaged. The curriculum is portrayed graphically as a map; students unlock new “islands” as they progress through skills. Handwriting recognition technology and a digital scratchpad allow students to write on the tablet and show their work right in the application.
- Supportive scaffolding: Program scaffolding guides each student to progress at her own pace without advancing ahead or attempting new items until she has demonstrated competency on preceding skills.
- Practice and application modalities: Each skill section includes practice and application problems to reinforce skill retention and build fluency.
- On-demand support resources: Digital video and other interactive support resources are embedded in the app, to encourage students to problem-solve and remediate errors independently. With the “Walk Me Through” feature, students direct the amount of prompting they receive by working through a sample solution one step at a time. This self-directed segmentation and reveal reinforces a systematic approach to problem-solving, and challenges students to take just the amount of prompting they need before returning to solve problems on their own.
- Robust motivational system: Students earn a sense of accomplishment and are also motivated by Sylvan’s tested motivational system as well as in-app rewards. The more problems the students solve correctly on the first or second try, the more coins they earn in the game.
- Reporting and accountability features: Coaches use the Algebra Edge Coach Dashboard to observe student activity in real time. The Coach Dashboard automatically updates on a minute-by-minute basis and provides robust reporting by specific problem, allowing coaches to validate or adjust student placement if needed.
